I am Professor of Psychology in the School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences at the University of Reading.

I received my Ph.D. in Linguistics and M.S. in Statistics from the University of Chicago.

My research investigates the cognitive and neural mechanisms underlying music and language processing. I adopt a cross-domain (music and language), cross-linguistic (English and Mandarin), cross-population (including congenital amusia, autism, dyslexia, musicianship, and tone-language experience), and multi-method (behavioural, EEG, and fMRI) approach to understand how individuals perceive, learn, and produce music and language. My work has both fundamental implications for theories of human cognition and practical applications for education and clinical practice.
